Crappie Killer

tied by cornmuse
Fly Type: Bucktails/Deceivers,
Target Species: Freshwater Bass, Panfish,
Recommended Region: Central US,
Imitation: General Baitfish,
Material List: This is a fly that evolved from a fly I tied nearly 40 years ago in Massachusetts where it was designed as a killer of calico bass (crappie). A moment's nostalgia had me update the fly to 2010 standards.

Here is the pattern for the 2010 version:
Thread: cream 6/0
Hook - 3xl streamer, size 5 and 8
Tail- white rabbit
body - tightly dubbed white rabbit
ribbing - medium flat Silver Tinsel, metal
beard - white rabbit
wing - coyote
Tying Instructions: In the order in which the materials are listed.
Presentation Tips: This fly is tied unweighted so it sinks VERY slowly. Fish it with an almost painfully slow hand-twist retrieve. Crappie and perch will tear this fly up. Fish it on an intermediate line for deeper presentations in still water.
