Monster Tube Caddis TM

tied by fishmadman
Fly Type: Salmon Flies,
Target Species: Atlantic Salmon,
Recommended Region: General Europe,
Imitation: Caddis Flies,
Material List: Tied on fine quality plastic tube.
Hook guard: - silicone tubing
Tail: Moss with strands of Crystal Flash (Veniard)
Boddy: Deer hair
Hackle: Multiple Brown and cock-y-Bundy
Horns: Multiple whiskers from rabbit.
Tying thread: Black

Tying Instructions: Heat the tube in one end - to form a tiny collar

Fix the tube to a needle Tie in a piece of silicone tube to support the hook. Different size silicone tubing can be use according to your choice of hooks

Tie in hair as tail (Length: 1/5 of the fly body) Different types of hair can be used : Buck tail, badger, moss, squirrel or as here: Deer body hair. Trim down the hair and add strands of mylar. Here we have used Veniard Mirror Flash. Add a tiny drop of super glue to fix. point

Tie down sections of deer body hair. Make sure to tighten each section securely. We preferably use PE lines for this job. In this case Fireline 4 #. Add sections until 3/4 of the tube is covered.

Start the shaping process by cutting the body into a rectangular shape. Then trim the deer hair body into a V-shaped style. We prefer to use this Stone-fly trimmer from Hopkins & Holloway

Cut the belly flat using a razor blade. The flat belly is a crucial part of this pattern - This will enable the fly to slide on the surface - and act highly lively - Just like the real caddis

Add the tying thread and 4 quality hackles. Add a tiny drop of super glue to fix. point

Tie in two equal sections of whiskers from rabbit mask or boar hair. Split them up like shown on illustration. Whiskers should work as horns on the fly and could be double the length of the fly body. (fly seen from below) Add tiny drop of super glue to fix. point

Turn hackles. Secure with thread. Whip-finish and apply super-glue to the head

Cut away excess tube and hackle in the bottom part of the fly - so it aligns with the flat-cut belly. Apply flotant while fly still is clean and dry

Presentation Tips: In this next lines of photos we will show you how to dress a: Monster Tube Caddis TM a pattern that have become very popular among salmon anglers in Canada and Northern Scandinavia...A big imitation... or rather a caricature of a caddis from the limnephilidae family

Tying dry-flies on tube ? - we believe it is the future dry flies... if were talking big patterns.

Floats better.

No problems with leverage.

Free choice of hook (we prefer short shank wide gape hooks)

Thats about it...See you out their or meet us on our home page..fishmadman.com

Good luck ! Jesper Fohrmann 2010
