Thread: Danville Fire Orange Depth Ray Nylon
Eyes: Nickel plated bar bell lead, 1/50 or 1/36 oz.
Tail: Chartreuse Arctic Fox fur, with a few strands of holographic silver flash
Butt: Danville Fire Orange Depth Ray Nylon
Body: Danville Fl. Green Nylon Wool
Underwing: Two short lengths of Pearl mylar tubing, tied top & bottom, then picked out.
Collar: Fl. Pink saddle or neck Hackle
Head: Danville Fire Orange Depth Ray Nylon, and epoxy coated.
Tying Instructions: This fly was originally designed for Shad in Deer Creek, Harford Co. Md, a tributary of the Susquehanna River. It works well just about anywhere. It's also an excellent fly for Crappies, White & Yellow Perch.

It's easily tied, and the materials are listed in the order in which they are tied.

The original version used calftail as a tail material, but I've since switched to fox fur which has much better action.
Presentation Tips: This fly should be fished near the bottom for Shad, either with an up & across presentation, or straight down stream allowing it to hang in the current. I like to add short twitches, especially when Crappies or Perch may also be present.
