Chief (v.)

tied by Old Hat
Fly Type: Hairwing,
Target Species: Steelhead,
Recommended Region: Northwest US,
Imitation: Stone Flies,
Material List: Hook: salmon
Thread: tan/black
Tag: red floss
Rib: small silver braid
Body: muskrat and hare's ear dubbing
Hackle: black hen
Wing: black bear
Tying Instructions: I like to start the hackle in at what would be the thorax area and tie it "spey" style. I also like to keep the wing a little short. The original pattern calls for a red hackle tail but I replace that with red tag. If using the hackle tail I would tie the wing in longer.
Presentation Tips: Swing and lift.
