Tie in round rubber 1 1/2 shank lengths long. Bind so paddles angle back and down slightly. Wrap back to bend and tie in pheasant tail with the tips pointing back (it helps to glue the back side of the pheasant prior to tieing in). Dub thread - make sure not too use too much dubbing - about 5" should do. Wrap abdomen up to 1 hook eye back from the eye. Be careful not to displace the rubber paddles by wrapping lightly. You are basically going for a stubby cigar shape with the fat section right at the paddles. Tie in fine silver wire 1 hook eye back from the eye. Wrap back about 2 hook eyes, overlapping the dubbing. Build up to match abdomen diameter. (I have also used 4-5 strands of pearl or silver Krystal Flash instead of the wire. It gives a bit more sparkle). Pull pheasant tail up over abdomen and tie in behind the eye.Keep it a little slack to create a nice arc. Trim fibers. Create a small thread head, whip finish and cement. | Other Flies Tied by mhackney
