Fly Type: General Freshwater,
Target Species: Panfish,
Recommended Region: Central Canada,
Imitation: General Baitfish,
Material List: Hook- Any long shank streamer or nymph hook
from size 12-16
Thread- Olive, grey or tan uni thread size 3/0
Tail- Marabou in white, tan, or olive colors
Head- very small regular or tungsten bead
Body- strips of Krystal flash or micro Krystal Hair
in olive, root beer, tan or other color of your choice.
Eye on the bead is optional which can be painted on
if you wish.
Tying Instructions: 1. Slip bead on hook
2. Tie in the marabou tail and cut to appropriate size.
3. Wrap a generous amount of thread on the hook to form a narrow minnow body and cement the body lightly, twice during wraps.
4. Finish the wrapping at the base of the bead head and tie off close.
5. ( A rotating vise really helps with this part)
Cut small strips of Krystal hair. Rotate the fly on it's side
and cement alongside the body.
Quickly place the Krystal hair pieces along the body
and let them set on the cement.
6. Rotate the fly on it's other side, varnish and quickly set down strips of Flash on it's other side.
7. After strips of Krystal Flash have set on the body,
cement the whole body well with a good thick cement.
8. Rotate the body from time to time as it dries to get a nice even coat.
9. Repeat cementing and rotating one last time.
This fly is very easy to tie but the setting of the varnish coats takes a little time.
Overall, it makes this fly extremely durable.
Presentation Tips: This fly in it's tiny size works well for all panfish
as well as trout, and bass.
The Krystal Flash alongside the body really make this one sparkle in the water on a sunny day.
The perch can't leave it alone.
