Newton's Flymph

tied by Soft-hackle
Fly Type: Wet,
Target Species: Trout,
Material List: Hook: Standard wet fly 12-16

Thread: Black

Hackle: Barred dk ginger or dk ginger hen

Tail: Same as Hackle

Body: Very dark rooted Hare's Ear dubbed Leisenring style on Black tying thread.

Tying Instructions: Tie on the hackle so the tip points out over the eye. Wrap the tying thread down the shank near the bend and tie on the tail. Trim excess. Tie on the dubbing brush, the wrap the tying thread back down the shank forming a slightly tapered underbody. Wrap the body, tie off and trim excess. Wrap the hackle, two turns, tie off and trim excess. While holding the hackle fibers swept back with the thumb and forefinger of the non-tying hand, slightly overwrap them with the tying thread to hold them in position. Form the head, whip finish and add cement.
Presentation Tips: Fish upstream or down in the film or just below. Also used on the swing or using the Leisenring lift. Another technique for this fly is to dry it out slightly with some paper towel and present it semi dry, subsurface so the body and hackle trap air.
