Black Star Emerger

tied by Soft-hackle
Fly Type: Wet,
Target Species: Trout,
Recommended Region: Northeast US,
Imitation: Caddis Flies,
Material List: Black Star Emerger

Hook: Emerger style 14-18

Thread: Black

Hackle: Irredescent starling

Rib: Fine green wire

Abdomen: Fine Black rabbit Dubbing

Thorax: Dk gray ostrich herl

Tying Instructions: This fly is my own pattern. Tie on the hackle by the stem so it points out over the eye. Wrap the tying thread down the shank, close to the bend and tie on the wire ribbing. Dub the dark fur sparsely, directly to the tying thread and wrap it back toward the eye to form the abdomen. Next, rib the abdomen, tie off the wire and trim excess. Tie on the ostrich and wrap to form the soft thorax. Wrap the starling hackle, tie off and trim excess. While holding the hackle back with the non-tying hans thumb and forefinger, slightly overwrap the hackle to hold it in position. Form the head, whip finish and coat with cement.
Presentation Tips: This fly is effective fished using the Leisenring lift and dead drift in the currents, in or just below the surface upstream or down. Also on the swing, downstream.
