tail: 1 strand of olive yarn separated from a 2 strand rug yarn, then spun and doubled over.

Tying Instructions: The difficult part of tying this fly is making the tail. To do that separate 1 strand of yarn ~7" long from the 2 strands in the rug yarn. Tie one end of the strand to a dubbing whorl (or a cuphook in a drill) and hold the other end of the yarn, under tension, in your hand while twisting it, ~ 40 - 75 revolutions. Keeping the yarn under tension grab a spot near the middle of the yarn and double up the yarn. Release your grip on the middle of the yarn and let it spin together, while holding the free ends of the yarn. Tie an overhand knot in the twisted bundle near your fingers to keep it twisted.
