Ephemera

tied by paul whillock
Fly Type: Dry,
Recommended Region: Other,
Imitation: Mayflies,
Material List: I spend a lot of time writing stuff down and making entomological sketches etc. Whilst tying this Mayfly, I realised I had amassed an absolute library of fly tying info and illustrations that were of benefit to a fly tyer. As a result, I began committing the whole lot to a book though this soon became a mammoth task! Now, 15 years after making the first sketch and 3 years after writing the first line of my book I am nearly done! This little Mayfly is one of my most favoured patterns and uses "Close to Nature wings" First of all I draw the insects wing and then run the hand drawn wing image thru my computer, the final image is then etched onto ascetate sheets and used fo presentation fles.
Tying Instructions: One of my smallest realistic flies and one that is tied using 2 hooks, from the first hook Iclip the hook bend and eye leaving a straight shank. This shank is then tied "Extended body style" onto a regular hook.
