Migratory Locust

tied by paul whillock
Fly Type: Miscellaneous,
Recommended Region: Other,
Imitation: Hoppers/Crickets,
Material List: Again, my Hopper pattern uses the same materials used in my other flies i.e. Raffene, Mono and Japanese Nymph Legs.
Tying Instructions: This fly was possibly the most difficult I have ever attempted, the UTC 70 thread was so fine that it kept breaking but, using a heavier thread meant that I built up too much bulk!! In the end, I settled on a Gordon Griffiths 17/0 which worked well. My main problem (actually there were many) was the head shape! I solved the problem by tying in a large bunch of Cock Pheasant Centre tail under the jaws and literally folding it back over the top of the hook and body to form the head shape.
