P. californica Adult

tied by paul whillock
Fly Type: Salmon Flies,
Recommended Region: Other,
Imitation: Stone Flies,
Material List: The materials and tying methods for this fly are identicle to tying the Nymph version of this fly (also in this database) the only exception is creating the wings; I sandwich small sections of animal hair and stripped quills between two sheets of clear Raffene. I coat each side of the Raffene with Lureflash featherweld which is varnish used to repair Jungle Cock feathers.....it works great for realistic wings!!
Tying Instructions: I insert a natural tan japanese nymph leg int othe thick butt section of a porcupine guard hair, this helps to create great looking mouthparts!
Presentation Tips: The second (mating) image that you see is a much simplified version of this fly, the body is created using Flexibody whilst the wings are: "Close To Nature Presentation wings".
