Who Megan taught to tie flies, is, and never was, a question. I have two letters, of many, that Megan wrote to me as well as a tape recording where she declares by name that she never taught Colin Simpson to tie flies. There are tons of untruths that have come out of the Simpson camp over the years from both of them, the father and son.Its to late now but it is very annoying to us who were were with Megan when she made the above statement as well as other affairs she spoke of,such as asking if she had made out her will. Believe me there is alot more to the fable. My relationship with Magen can best be explained by quoting a signature card that Magen signed to go with the flies she gave me, "To Ron Alcott, with best wishes and love from Magen Boyd."

Welcome to the Forum Ron!!

I assume this is the issue you are posting in regards to? http://www.classicfl...showtopic=46539

It's always nice to get to the bottom of claims such as these.  Unfortunately, there are a lot of half truths and lies floating around out there in the classic salmon fly tying circles..... but the truth always seems to come out----eventually!

Hi Ron!

Welcome to the forum. I understand completely where you're coming from with this Simpson stuff but I couldn't care less what he said about his "relationship" with Megan Boyd. Unfortunately, once things are published in books or film, they become the "truth" regardless of the accuracy of the legend.

Hope to see you here more often Ron!!!!!!

Happy Trails!

Hi Ron-Welcome!  I remember when I first met you at the Antique Angler's Show back in the early 90's.  As with most people tying at the time, you had a huge influence on me and then on through Mike Radencich.  Great to see you here and I hope you will continue to influence and help people with this hobby.  PaulR  (Paul Rossman)

Hi Ron,

Welcome from old germany. Thanks for your book "Building Classic Salmon Flies".

I enjoyed reading and understanding your instructions.

We oughtn't tie to please others. If we're happy, that is what it is all about.

Thank you, your replies warmed my heart! Its very gratifying to know that there are folks who know the truth. As I wrote, "There is a lot more to the fable." Would you like to be to able to read, in part, the letters that Megan wrote wherein she denies having been involved in giving any fly tying classes? I'd be very happy to type and post them here.

To me it seems that this would probably just be publicity for Simpson. Both negative and positive info, are great marketing. Personally, I hadn't heard of the man and his son, untill you posted about them here. First impression, based only on what is written in this thread: clever business guys.

Hi All,

Just been reading the various postings on this topic & my first reaction was "What started all this off". I've got copies of Megan's letters to various people which touch on the same topic & never saw the point of slating the Simpsons.

I welcome Ronn to the forum as does everyone else, he'll be a great asset, just a pity to start off with this topic.
