Hi all- back from Stuttgart meetings and the start of my Hewitt Wheatley journey...I want to get the set done this week, and fill my Hewitt Wheatley drawer!...here is the first - the No 1.... Love the double tail...

Quite pleased with this...unusually calls for a Jay collar!!

..as for my quiz fly....a Parson and a man called Pat were involved in its creation ;-)

Cheers all...have a great day

Stuart

Dear STUART,

This will be 'better' than Your 'Germany' trip to Stuttgart ! (hahahahaha)

I am sooooooo pleased and confident YOU will do YOUR very best on this HEWITT WHEATLY 'set' !!!

This 'n° 1' is allready no exeption ..lovely allover (even I had like to see that woodduck roof (or rooflike) laying closer to the headwing

I love the 'subtile' bodyhackle (at first I taught even there wasn't 'one' (so YOU can immagine how good my eyes are still at allmost 55 years - hahahahahaha)

I wonder toooooooo what's the feather YOU have used for the throath ...it looks partridge but it can also be a femal MONAL feather or even a 'hen peacock feather' (we stay in the other 'sexe' hahahahaha)

wonderful peacock herlhead YOU managed and the jay collar is nicely coming 'out' toooooooooo

All in all a good fly and tying STUART !!!

pstttttttttttttttttttttttttttttttt I am still wondering when YOU are talking of a certain PAT...Irish I may suppose or think !!!

but I am confused with what my 'cabin mate' BOB brought forward ...read for the river ERNE....(I know there was the Erne Ranger pattern (a bit with that 'red' underwing going in Your direction and also the PARSON pattern but then totally different than what YOU brought here !)

In Malone his book in the references I spotted the book by : Rev.H.NEWLAND, The ERNE, IT's LEGENDS AND IT's FLYFISHING...but I can't think I am right with it ...PAT isn't Rev.H.Newland (hahahahahaha)

case continued !!! ....but looking forward to Your 'weekexploit' (as YOU says and bring over YOU will tie the whole set by HEWITT WHEATLY ! ...let them come my friend !!!

With lots of respect !

Geert

Here is the pattern from the text..

"What fly was it, your honour ?" said
Pat, who, at the mention of the dream, had
been listening eagerly.
" Well, it was a queer fly," said the
Squire ;
" I question whether it ever had an
existence in real earnest.,,
" But what fly was it ? " persisted Pat.
M Well," said the Squire, laughing, " it
had a mixed tail, black body and hackle,
with gold twist, blood-red hackle on the
neck, blood-red under-wings, wings of argus
black spotted with white, black ostrich head,
and red maccaw horns."
" A very pretty fly to catch a whale," said
the Captain. " I do not think it will catch
anything else—at least, out of fairy land."
