I was inspired by the Charming Billy that Gotz posted so I tried my hand a making a feeble attempt to mimic it.

So here is Wee Willy sitting in my fly box before getting wet

TMC 200R size 14
Antique flat gold tip.
Lemon wood duck, powder blue macaw and orange weaver in the tail.
A couple of colors of beaver dubbing for the butt.
Gold silk with antique flat gold rib.
Blue followed by black mohair with antique gold rib.
Silver badger hackle.
Two cree hackle tips with dyed orange guinea over.
Fiery brown hackle wound over all.
Two colors of beaver dubbing on the head.

I will admit to forgetting the JC sides and realizing this too late to remedy.

I fished this fly on the Big Thompson River below Lake Estes last Tuesday evening (7/31) with Dale Darling. Believe it or not, but Dale has photos of the fly sticking out of the mouth of a nice 14" rainbow that was stupid enough to try and eat the fly. I also caught a brown while fishing the fly on the swing and then I retired it. Dale is currently fishing somewhere in Montana and has these pictures with him.

Hope you enjoy.

Charlie, You realize that entrusting the evidence to a certain gentleman is a good way for it to disappear!!!

Dear CHARLIE,

You must for sure still have 'STEADY young hands' ...even YOU aren' anymore of the youngest ! hahahahaha

That had to be realy juggling to 'put' all that stuff on that n° 14 hook !!! (increddible even !!!°

BUT I must say CHARLIE that I appreciate YOUR doing a 'hundred times' more than at what one time DALE did...read 'rocketting one of his enormous BUTCHER's' he tied to those innocent fingerling trout in front of his 'cabin' !!!

Yours is tied to the point and to the 'etiquette' we can call pure FLYFISHING for TROUT !!!

.......................and soooooooo nice to see that DAVIDs his fly was once more the inspiration !!!

Yes I know that Your 'boss' DALE came allready along with his realy good copies of DAVID's his fly(yes that I must admit and confess)............and yes as YOU and DALE are : 'TWO hands on ONE and the same BELLY' (a pure Belgium expression I believe !)...it seems evident that YOU had to do 'Your thing' tooooo ! wink !

LOVE what I see...(jungle cock or no jungle cock !)

Seems YOU want to show 'both' wich sort of fly I must bring with me 'next year' (succesful fly ! ...even we haven't as my cabin mate BOB brought over NOT YET THE PROOF of Your "WEE WILLY" his effectifness...YOU must trust that 'grey bearded tall old burbler soooooooooooooooooo much ! hahahaha)

and so if I tie up a couple of this so succesful GOTZMER fly...it will be again a further CROSS BREED

A cross breed between the 'one and only' "CHARMING BILLY"...the "SILLY BILLY" and Your "WEE BILLY" ! hahahahaha

Thanks for this nice thread my friend !!!............

BOB YOU hear it...the 'CANNIBAL' is absent...we have the 'entire' stretch of river for 'us' ALONE !!! we must drink 'one' on that !!!

Geert

Thanks so much Chuck. Delighted to see that "Charming" has started a family and, like Dad, they all love the water

I looked at this fly and thought, "Wow, very fishy indeed, no wonder it managed a few nice fish." Then I read the materials list closer and realised that it was tied on a size 14! Yikes! What a feet!

Well, I just returned from a week in Dillon, Montana to this type of treatment. I wondered why my ears were burning and here it was GEERT - my enemy of the heart, and Bob of OZ giving me grief. Well.

I'm attaching shots of Chuck's Wee Willy - of Gotz's Willy family tree - and his fish.

Also one picture of one upper Beaverhead River Brown trout. But just one, due to the nefarious tone of voice from my dear friends from afar.

I hope you are all well!

Love,
Dale

Great photos Dale. That Brown is a treat for sure! I'd love to catch a 20+ inch trout on a size 20 fly cast from a bamboo rod. What a treat.

Dear DALE and CHARLIE,

HOPE YOU 'two' had the best of time !!!

50 years of marriage for CHARLIE...(I better had announced that instead of all those birthdays of the last day ! wink !..........anyway MY friend !!! I hope YOU and Madelene and the whole family (children and grandchildren) and the invited guests for the celebration ...had a marvellous saterday !

For YOU DALE ...A wellmeaned wellcome back ...and a thanks for gifting us that 'LONG AWAITED' PROOF.....but Yes if I should fish 10 days in a row with 'one' or another WILLY on the CAST ...I am sure there would be at least ONE 'silly trout' to grab WILLY !!! (hahahahaha........and still this they can make a whole film in a week when necessary ...especially when there aren't many 'cuts' and 'other things' to shout by the director !

hmmmmmmmmmm so to see on that photo ...it was a strange 'spot' YOU was 'in' Mr. VESTAL !!! (YOU wasn't hooked on a small boulder ?)

but but but trust me !!! and as I am again today in a good 'mood'..............I will change direction and SAY AND BRING OVER ....that I believe 3 out of the four photo's ...NO NOT PHOTO n° 4 of that 'giant' brown ! (every 'kid' can take such ANGLED photo's given the impression that a 'ant mountain' looks like the 'Mount Everest'...common DALE say Yourself we even don't see Your face ... not even Your grey beard !)...in competion terms we would say DISQUALIFIED !

Will end here...enough said and argued (on this 'holy sunday' !)

God bless YOU all 'upthere'

Dear CHARLIE and DALE and DAVID (especially that last mentioned friend at heart !)

That none of YOU (and especially DAVID...don't see and read my words as a offence ...I am perhaps 'one' of the most convinced 'of' the friends ...in the fact that aswell the 'REAL' ..."CHARMING BILLY" and in the meanwhile his entire family so far ...isn't showing that deadly effectifness FOR every creature who received 'FIN's' by the 'man from above' !!!...

DAVID...I know that fishermen must show a huge amount of patience ...but waiting so 'long' for a proof ...was this time a bit tooooooo much asked !!! ............

I hope when I come over next year ! I musn't wait a full week before DALE show's himself at the aeroport to pick me up ! (hahahahaha)...

pstttttttttttt great tying Charlie...and great 'catch' !!!................................and Dale thanks for the 'proof photo's' ...and DAVID !...YOU are a good man !

Hi Geert, my dear friend of the heart,

It is delightful to see Chuck's fly in response to what Gotz tied. He was so excited to fish it, to land this fish - another one or two gave it a tug! Chuck made it the right size for our fingerlings, of course. I suppose for the fish that might take one of your flies, we'll have to tie some #47 flies, very small for very small trout, which you'll have to stand on the bridge to hook!!!

There will be no waiting at the airport, of course - now just a year away!

For now I'm not going to be much here as I'm trying to write another book and must use what little energy I seem to have to that end. Geert, I'll look in, though, and if required will do all that I can to keep you in line!

Love to you and your girls from up here!!
