Hi everyone,
For those of you who may be interested, I have just finished writing an article on the Irish Fly Exhibit from the 1902 Cork Exhibition. Ted malone, Pete Kealey, Frankie McPhillips and myself were afforded a private viewing a few months back and so some nice photos should be included in the article. There will be a few follow-up articles to come in future issues of the same magazine (Irish Angler) reviewing in depth, the flies, the tiers, etc! First up, Michael Rogan of Ballyshannon with some very interesting tid bits about Mr. Rogan that, perhaps, not too many people know about!
The collection is just amazing and should be available for public viewing sometime in 2013, if the display cabinets are finished in time. The real Fiery Brown colour is stunning as are the hackles on the flies.

Hope you all like the article.
Warmest greetings from a wet and windy Ireland Posted Image (sure what's new)Posted Image

Hi Peter,

I don't see the article, but will enjoy reading it when it's published. The two flies you show certainly wet my appetite for more pix!

Stay dry..

Peter-First, congrats to you and the boys for doing something that is long overdue. Second, how can we obtain copies of Irish Angler? PaulR

Paul,
All you need to do is contact Irish Angler magazine at www.irishangler.ie Digital subscriptions are available as are regular subscriptions. Other than that they might be willing to send you a single copy when the article comes out. I was speaking with the editor yesterday and he reckons that since the artilcle is a long one, and there are quite a few photos, they might have to run this first article over two issues. After that we are going to concentrate on the individual fly dressers themselves, beginning with Michael Rogan.

Cheers,

Peter Dunne

Really looking forward to this! I don't know enough about the Irish tiers and need to learn! Will be in Ireland at the end of August for a family holiday (Waterville in the south west) - hoefully we'll get to catch some fish!

Good luck with the rest of the articles

Colin
Visit My Website for photos of vintage flies and pattern details - specifically for the North East of Scotland, but getting broader in coverage!

Hi Peter,

You are right...not much is written on Michael Rogan or I should say it is not easy for us in canada to find information on him....Will check that online magazine!

Thanks Colin. So you are going to Waterville? That's a great fishing district and the 1902 fly collection has many patterns for this area. I wish you a greta trip.

Salut Jacques.
Ca fait longtemps mon ami. Comment ca va? Tell me, have you been to teh Granby show lately? I haven't been there for a long time now. It was a great show for me to meet all my Québecois friends. Have you been in touch with any of the old crew (Daniel Bolduc, Michel LeBlanc, Marc Madore, etc) If you meet any of the guys, please tell them a fond hello from L'Irlandais. Merci á l'avance. Peter. :-)
