Been on an imposed exile from the vise for the last couple week as my tying area being used for storage due to some work being done at home. Last night i salvaged materials to tie the Edwin Barry posted a couple weeks back.Really nice fly, pretty easy to tie. I wasnt focusing too much on perfection on these flies, just some relaxing tying. Deviated from the pattern slightly in that i used yellow goose shoulder in the wing instead of yellow macaw. The head is wool, though it might have been mohair on the one i saw. Size 2

Kingsmill - Per Malone, it can be tied small for trout, or large for Salmon, this is size 2 salmon iron

Faughan Purple - Malone, named after the River Faughan in my home country of Northern Ireland.
Not the best rendition and there is much i would like to redo on this one, but you get the general idea. I believe this is a 1/0

Comments welcome

Dear EUNAN,

Thanks my friend for gifting the forum and the friends ...some of Your flies...YOU seemed to have enjoyed tying (after some works in the 'house' and 'no vacany' to enter Your tying room ! hahahaha)

These aren't indeed flies who 'eyes' superclean for the 'public' ...but in terms of fishingflies they will do !!! (love that Faughan 'one'...and not sooooo badly tied either ! on such a small hook !)

pstttttt anyway even this are fishingflies !!!

do YOUR best not to 'go' OVERLONG in the tip/tags (I will not mentioning the flosswork here as it are fishingflies as YOU bring over !°
watch out not to go 'extremly high' with Your tails !!!

AND AND AND remember for all and for everytime...to PUT less sealsfur or mohair or wool at the 'front' of the body ...read to give a nice room for a nice platform for the throath and and and evemore to have a decent platform in relation to 'SET' a nice WING ...........IF YOU have to much BULK in the front ...YOU can't set LOW and nice WINGS !!! (they will climb ...but I think YOU know that with all number of experiences with tying Your classic WET flies !..............thus a taper of sealsfur DOWNWARDS when YOU come at the end of doing Your bodies with 'furs' !

It does great to see YOU tying...YOU are doing good ...I know and YOU know it YOURself there are here and there 'working points' ...but but but BELIEVE me !!! THEY will worked 'out' in a 'minimum of time' ...the rest will be 'finetuning' ...selecting (better) materials...and attention for detail (euh ofcourse on the not fishing flies ! hahahaha)

pstttttt think YOU convinced me to give that "FAUGHAN PURPLE" a try in the first months to come !

Hi Eunan,

Thanks for sharing your delight in tying these. I think it's a good idea to tie a few flies fast, use up some materials and see how they go. Then, use this to improve on things you'd like to improve on.

Are you back in the tying chair now? Snuggle girls often.
