Dear PHIL,

Amazing flies ...

Even plate 1 and 2 are fishing flies ...those 'gut eyers' are TOPS .........AND they 'look' FULL AND HEAVY MIXED TOOOOOO ( a bit mine and Mike's preferred style !!! ...and Yours on Your 'Silver Doctor')

(pstttttttt visited allready the HARDY factory in 1979 and this on my first fishing holiday to SCOTLAND....and signed togheter with my 'fishing friend' (we where both only 21 years then ! jesus how time GOES RAPID !!! in once life ...) a sort of a 'guest book' or similair laying in the reception 'hall'...

I trully enjoyed the 'guiding' we exclusively received by 'one of the staff' ...and this in the whole whole factory...

Of one thing we where both deeply impressed ...was the 'PRIMITIF' working atmosphere/surroundings...the 'workers' making their REELS had to work the whole day !!!...as the 'BATHS' (a boiling heated mix of methink a sort of alu and steel) where fabriqued outside...and then with a big spoon ...the 'mould' for the respecitvily reels where filled !!!....lots of handwork !!!

THANKS PHIL for Your realy lovely sets of HARDY flies YOU present here ...wich bring back vivid memories to 1979 !!!

Geert

We where surprised

Hi Phil,
Thanks for sharing. Never been to the museum. What did you think of it? Did you go to the factory? I've been to the factory a couple of times but this was back in the day when they had a lady (Cath iirc) who did the writing on all their rods. I remember they had a display of some of their salmon flies in the area by the shop.
Regards,
AK

Great place Phill and great stuff odd bargains in the shop as well.
For once my wife loved something to do with fishing she loved the bit about the old apprentices and the indeminities and how the people lived and worked

Phil those are great esp the Gut eyed babies, these are A typical flies of the era and how they were built, doesnt it make sense to build wings in this way however big or small the flies would surely have movement.

Thanks Phil.
