[S FONTINALIS]

Broadening my horizons, I tied a few black ghosts this weekend for fishing
Hooks are size 8 TMC705SP (5.5xl)
First time tying streamers like this. Will definitely continue.

That is definitly flytying ...to come to this stunning 'SEXTET' of classic "BLACK GHOSTs" !!! BRAVO !

they look great in the picture ! and I am sure in hand toooooooooo !

I hope YOU will fish 'them' (but not all I hope on the same day ! or or or there would been big obstacles in the river...or big big 'beasties and cannibals' swimming around or or or very weak nylon on Your cast ! (hahahahahaa)

Geert (after my 'trout fin' I will wait a bit to come 'up' with my third streamer ever !...soYOU have tied at least allready the double or triple as I have tied in my whole career ! psttttttttt EUH but I must confess that I sometimes have tied or tie a pike streamer in my 'local flytying clubs I am' (and this as I have to follow the 'invited guest flytyer'...but there it stops for me !!! for the moment !...but I have still (hopefully) many years to come to tie 'classic streamers' hahahahahaha

i'm led to believe the wing is a bit too long on these flies and would potentially snag the hook. I tried to make the wings a tad longer than the tails, so i guess the tail is too long also.
If was was to make any improvements to the tying, what would you more experienced folks suggest? Looking at the streamers on Mike's Page indicates the tail should be about the length of one hook point beyond the bend of the hook...is this about right?
Any input much appreciated guys.

do it. Thanks for the mention. I've soaked in a lot of visual knowledge, but have a distance to
go, as do most of us.

Tied another on a Mustad Chestertown 3300 size 9. Nice hook, though with straight eye.

My first time back in a month, so I'm just now seeing this. The Black Ghost is one of my favorite fishing streamers. Looking at your first flies, you did a nice job. I agree that the tail is a bit long, but the wings are fine. Hackle wings don't usually foul when fishing. Remember that this represents a small forage fish. The black body is the lateral line, and the beard and tail are the pectrol and anal fins. For fishing, I usually tie this on a size 6, 6x long.

Your last fly is more of a small mouth bass fly. Small mouth have a habit of grabbing their prey by the tail and running. By using a long hook, with little wing beyond the bend, you increase your chances of a hookup. Most of Carrie Stevens flies were intended for small mouths.

Black Ghost work on brown,steelhead,salar,work on my test.
Your BG with Mustad Chestertown really good combination on my eyes.
