Just thought Id let everyone know Im starting up a Tragopan breeding programme although I really ought to make a suitable house for em,not sure the parents would approve of em jumping on the dining table HEEE.

No letters to RSPCA please. I reckon theyve been dead since 1870 going off the legs of the case.

Any ideas as to the Bustard looking Guy anyone?

Andrew.

Hello you jammy barstaff

The trag is a cracker, the feathers on the back of the bird are used in at least 3 flies. The bustard looks like it's had some sun or you are crap at pics. but will find out for you. It's either little or black.

Verry very nice Mike

About the only thing ive got in Common with Mr Rist is a love of James Bond movies, though come to think of it Im not really fussed about those either HEEE.

Nope seriously for any newcomers on here who may not realise the Joke I dont condone any of his actions as its buggered it up for anyone now wanting to study these specimens Access Denied at all the natural history places.

I think theres more out there than we think?a few major collectors ready to sell or pop their clogs perhaps.

The Bird lover in me hates plucking the things though, needs must I guess.

Blackers Stash AO funny you should mention-------only Joking that would be a prize, did I ever post a pic of the Kelson Grub with Touracou in the tail?

I was always very hesitant at calling the few flies in the collection as kelsons but after reading his book ive no doubt they are his flies, ill post em up soon, the grub looks like it was made by the riverside, hardly an exercise in smooth floss body job.

Any ideas as to the Bustard anyone?its not the little Black one of that Im sure.

I reckon you've broken through into the motherload in one of the old mines down your way - all power to you in keeping at it and tracking this stuff down.

Great stuff Andrew.

That other ones I think is the female of one of the three "korhaan" species we have in South Africa, but I am not sure.

Cmon Ryan youre slacking mate the Bird you thought to be a Satyr is actually the Western Tragopan Female and its a real belter of a specimen and larger than the male,Im seriously thinking a Pair of Traherne Argus flies would look amazing one as per normal with the black male feathers and one using the Female feathers which actually have very bold markings on em and huge spots in places.

Trouble is Im not cut out for plucking as Im a true Bird lover,I remember Ruhan once reading me the third degree saying"What are you a flytyer or a Bird collector which I thought was sound advice.

Ill post a pic of the whole case man youll all have a good laugh I just didnt equate the dimensions given and the pic which showed to be quite flimsy,HEEEE its ridiculous over two Meteres tall and nearly the same wide and it weighed 100 Kilos.

Andrew.

PS Id be interested if anyone can ID the other birds.

PPS in the process of Getting the nesacerry Cites paperwork for these birds,After reading a thing by Martin Bach who is familier with Western Trags he says they are so rare that any surviving mounts were made between 1860 and 1890 which certainly is in keeping with thw High Victoriana scroll legs of the cabinet base.

"Korhaan" you say Ruhan are these in the Bustard family?
