I added some of my bamboo handles to some store-bought hackle pliers. I don't like when my rotating hackle pliers swivel while I'm wrapping hackle - therefore I make mine so that they do NOT rotate - the hackle pliers are attached to the handles with split rings and bent guides from the rods the handles are made from. Price is $20. (Judging from the price of Materelli whip finish knot tying tools at my local fly shop this is a great deal for fly tying tools.)

Don't know where your fly shop is but Materelli whip finishers using as an example only - Jstockard are $2.95, and their bamboo rotating hackle pliers are less than 10 bucks.

If they're charging 20 bucks for either one I'd shop somewhere else

FYI - The "Matarelli" for $2.95 is not the original. Frank Matarelli allowed the patent to expire on his invention over ten years ago, more like 12 - 15, and the cheap ones are knock-offs made in Pakistan and / or India. They still work, but they are lighter, and not as nice or as well made as the original Matarelli.

Hey, Fatman1 - I hope you are healing well and recovering from your recent surgery... smile.gif
I know what that is like, have had 4 surgeries myself...all abdominal. It's a little bit of a slow road back, but day by day, you'll make it!

Thanks Don - yeah the surgery went okay but didn't have much leave time so came back to work after 10 days - they pretty much had a fit but oh well. The worst part is I haven't been able to do any tying for almost 2 years.

When I was fat and happy I was fine. Started to behave and everything is screwing up. Not even healed from this one yet and they're doing a CT scan when I go to my post op appointment to see if my damned appendix is swelling!!!!!! I'm hoping it's just from the muscles not being used because of the stitch's cause I don't want to think about the other.

Thanks again

Fatman
