When doing quill slip tails does one use just 1 quill slip or are they done the same way as a wing. What I'm asking is their a left and a right in the tail or is just 1 quill slip used. Are different bird quills better than others? On my fishing flies I usually just use hackle barbs, I think their is more movement in the water. I see some quill slips for the tail. I'm just having a hard time perfecting the technique. Carl

I use a left and a right slip of wing quill for the tails on my classic wet flies. I set them exactly the same way I set the quill wings. I can also put concave side to concave side so that they lie together or convex to convex to get them to flair out.
