here are two pictures of originals tied by Brian Gulline. They are not in my collection ( I wish).
notice the length and width of them ...the third one is I believe a red wing instead of the orange. The wing in the harlequin is different from the others as the colors have a different proportions
how you tie your fly is up to you and if you are happy with it then fine. these are just for your reference

A lovely long winged look Tony. I wonder if the wing and tail would marry. Ted's post was a real eye opener for me, I'm so accustomed to the shorter winged versions

judging by the length of the hook and the use of badger hackles on both flies by Brian appear to be the streamers described in Bates.
Your hook, your rule as Ted said - but if you're using goose shoulder, then i'd recommend to use fibers from close to the top of the feather. That way you'll be able to lose the whispy ends without cutting them off.

yes, very nicely tied. A nice long wing that fits the application of the fly. Nicely done.
