I'll second that, Ronn. Very nice Ghost, indeed, Plumbob. I like the bronzey grey wing. headbang.gif

Thanks guys. Compared to them salmon flys you tie up this would be like a hare's ear nymph. biggrin.gif

Very neat Ghost Plumbob! headbang.gif (very Marcelo-esque!) wink.gif

Re: the wing color -- very tough to replicate her Gray Ghost coloration. Part of it is perhaps lesser quality white hackles (not so white?) prior to dyeing, part the difference in dyes, part aging and color change over time, giving some an olive-bronze cast, and some a 'rosy' quality. Best shot would be something offered as 'bronze dun'. I actually tried to get Whiting to experiment and come up with a 'Gray Ghost' replica color offering in their American Hackle line, but they weren't interested in pursuing it at the time. mad.gif

Featherwing streamers are their own art form. Not at all easy to tie Carrie's patterns. Relatively few have mastered them, IMO. Because of the stunning materials and obvious appeal, there may be more salmon fly masters out there than streamer masters. ohmy.gif

bump.

Just reporting that I've finished--tied 2 in hand (Artula & American Beauty). Took a little more patience than usual, as tying sans vise just makes everything more difficult, but I think the results rival what I tie in the vise. I don't think this is a practice I'd wish to continue, but I thought it would be a nice way to honor Carrie, and at least now I can say I've done it.

It's pouring again. So I'm tying up a Firefly and a Hammerhead. Royce took the Hammerhead, so I'll post the Firefly. I'll post my Hammerhead on a separate thread. I haven't tied either of them before.

Currently drying head cement coating #2. I hope to post them tomorrow night.
