I totally agree. Has anyone here tied the White lady? Great film and the animation and atmosphere is enchanting. I want to fish the Helmsdale river sometime. Opening week it's free to fish with the fly

Looks like the Helmsdale is a pretty good trip for you, even if the fishing is free the first week.  And I wonder about the first week.  Is it free because there are no fish in the river?  I have encountered that situation in Labrador....

I haven't seen it. Would like to though. Do you have to buy a DVD to see it?

I do like what I know of her. Sure hope you get to cast on the river Dave. Good luck!

Dale,

The movie is titled "Kiss the Water". I personally was unimpressed. I'm a big fan of the late Ms. Boyd and have a number of her flies...but found the movie lacking. Too much time spent on Colin Simpson and not nearly enough on her. The additional artsy fartsy stuff added nothing except to fill in movie time and space. If you can get it free,...watch it...otherwise don't waste your money. This is just my opinion of course..

Cheers,

George

I just watched the trailer. Loved the quote, I hope we never learn why a sdlmon takes a fly.

There is no reason to fly fishing. It's fun, and unimportant like so many other pursuits. And pleasantly addictive. But those aren't reasonable, are they?

I found it on fire stick. $3.99 to rent for one week. It was early, but I watched it through.

What I'm left with is a deeper love for Scotland, Megan Boyd, the waters and flies, and the friends who admired her for who she was. I'm taken by honest people who find and live life where they are. She was rooted in bring a Scot, and tying flies because they are pretty seems as good s justification as any. She sounds egoless, for as much as that is possible.

When I watch movies, read books, listen to music, and look at visual art I allow the Art to set its parameters and then base my response by the completeness of its statement. Once, after I finished performing a piano concert, a fellow said, "I recently read that a live performance is a gesture, rather like shaking a hand. And that gesture is either successful or it isn't." I like that.

Kiss The Water, regardless of a few foibles, is a successful gesture. It sets a pace that mines Megan's, I think. Her friends and acquaintances give her a fair, mostly objective, observation.

Thanks for reminding me of a movie I missed dye to unforeseen circumstances Dave.

Glad you enjoyed it. I certainly did. I love Scotland, the atmosphere, the people and it one of the last places in the uk where, if you want , you can head up the glen and never see another soul for as long as you want. I miss it there. I lived on the isle of Skye for 2 years by my self. Loved every second. And feckin great whiskey!!
Never made it up to Sutherland, would love to sometime..
All the best
Dave

Others will remember, but you don't know. I was there once for three days of fishing the Tay in the late 90's. Felt Scot - an interesting sensation that surprised me Dave. Darling is far down in the minor clans, but I assume I'm a Highlander! HAHA. It was wonderful to be there, and very cool to land three salmon on flies I tied - the first ever of and on each.

Hope you get back when you can. I'd like to hear about it when you go.

Best to you and your family from here.

Dale

Must admit, I'm with George on this. To, no sorry three much "padding". Saw it in a local cinema & it was stretched to make it fit, I mean (the late) Terry Griffith's & some of his mates were tying on vices that were never around during her lifetime, even though you only saw their hands in action on them.

Hi
In the movie, she was given a book, a small blue book, to use to teach her self to tie. Does anyone know or have a guess at which book that might be??
Cheers

Dear DAVE,

If I remember when I readed the 'book' by Younger...it seems that PRYCE TANNATT his book ...'HOW TO DRESS SALMON FLIES' was her BIBLE ...

and I know that the first edition (914) has a 'blue(ish)' look
