Tied up with some Collins hackle a friend sent me. Love the hackle. Spades are ok.. not as stiff as I would like.Attached File  IMG_1492.JPG   108.36K   102 downloads

Sweet, really like the smokey colored hackle against the wood duck.

Beautifully tied!

What is the difference between the Light Hendrickson and the Cross Special?

Thanks!

Thanks guys! Reed, to my knowledge... Cross Special has a Marten fur body. I'm not sure besides that.

Nice fly Josh.I really like the smaller Collins capes. A lot of variety without having to break the bank.

the cross special is a "corss" of a light hendrickson's (body) and the gordon's quill (hackle and wing)

well done Josh

Thanks guys.

I checked Smedley's. He quotes Reuben Cross as saying that it is "a cross between the Gordon Quill and the Light Cahill."

Roy Steenrod originated the Hendrickson in 1916, but with a Golden pheasant crest tail. The tail was later changed to wood duck and then hackle fibers. Smedley wrote "the Cross is similar to the present Light Hendrickson, but with a still lighter body."

It seems like concurrent development, leading to a barely discernable difference in the final patterns.

I'll need to get some marten fur in the lighter shades. Unfortunately, marten ranges from yellow to dark brown.

Thanks guys!

I found marten furs almost white online. That's really what I'm after. If I ever have and extra $150... I'll get me one. May be a while.
