Old Age and Your Collection

05 September 2019 - 07:56 PM

The time when my hands are too shaky and my memory is fading slowly approaches. I have not been blessed with grandchildren. There is no flytyers group where I live.
What to do with decades worth of materials aquired with effort and passion has me concerned lately. Selling it off piece by piece is not the path. Selling it for money is not even a concern. Being able to keep it together and knowing that where it ends up will be appreciated with a true passion would be ideal.

Where is your collection going when the time comes?

Resurrection of the old threads

What is the general consensus here about commenting on older threads. I have found a few that are of interest to me with some great info and still active members.
Is this something frowned upon here?

Kelson Collection and Stuart Hardy

04 September 2019 - 01:41 AM

Most of you probably know the website but I only found it a couple days ago. Fantastic!! Good on ya Stuart for your time/money/effort.

What I found interesting about all those pics is the vast amount of dyed materials not found in the patterns. So many turkey/peacock that was dyed. Badger type hackles dyed in vast arrays of bright colors. Makes me wonder if he fished variations of the patterns in his book rather than the so called standards.

Would like to converse about the whole inky boy ordeal with anybody willing. My read on it is far different than anything google fed me. Although the book referenced on this site contains a valid opinion about the ordeal I do not think it is accurate in the big picture.

Hook Size actual

03 September 2019 - 10:33 PM

Good Day All

I am looking for reference to the actual measurements of the old hooks the fellows like Blacker,Ephemera and Kelson used. Tried the search system here and came up blank with 6 different phrases.

Secondly, when finding good white tipped turkey feathers what is the going rate for them?

Thx in advance for help.
