Hi Joe, I live in New Port Richey. We're practically neighbors! I would be happy to meet at some point and we can sit down and tie a couple of flies. Right now I'm in Arizona until mid February. PM you phone number and I'll give you a call when I get back to Florida.

In Topic: St. Petersburg Fly Fishing?

23 October 2016 - 01:14 AM

I live about 30 miles north of St. Pete. There is very good fishing that time of year. There are many flats on the east side of the city, Weedon Island is a good spot. To the south there is Fort DeSoto park, beach fishing around the piers for Pompano is a blast with a 6 or 7 wt. rod. Tie up some Gotcha's, the Pomps love them.

The important thing to remember is that tides dictate the bite. The 2 hours or so on either side of  the high tide is the most productive.  I'd offer to guide you, but I'm going to be very tied up in late Nov. Good luck and have fun.
