I've seen "show us your tying desk" threads before but in a lot of the posted photos it is glaringly obvious that the photographer heavily prepped the site beforehand. That's not what we are after here. The idea for this thread it to post a photo of how your (working) tying desk looks right now, now being as you sit down to tie, at a point of mid fly contemplation, as you post fly or that moment as you walk into the room and say "what a sh*t show, I really have clean this mess". The hope is that people will be able to get lost in, or inspired by,  the down and dirty magical mess of tools and materials found in your war room, maybe even pick up tying trick or two that wouldn't come out in a normal conversation or fly post.

Think behind the scenes, think a day in the life, think the simple truth, but what ever you do...don't prep the site.

Yes Jim.

Stuff like the  orientation of the gut leader on the fly in your vise come s to light. In your Awe No1 and  2 post photo the gut leaders are drawn out more. When I saw that photo I thought what a pain in the butt it must be to tie that way. Now, in your desk photo, I see not only is it looped a lot tighter but the orientation of the loop is perpendicular to the gape providing yet more room down below.

Thanks for jumping in. Hopefully this will be an ongoing thing.

No prep, but this is about as bad as it gets.

I've taken over the quilting area that I built for my late wife.  It is tying in the foreground and bamboo rod restoration in the background.

This is my tying cabinet. I am in the middle of doing the 3 times 3 March Browns. I open this when I want to tie, and everything I'll ever need, is in here. Vice, tools, feathers, etc. My long term storage is in the basement.

I prefer to dress flies in the living room, while my wife does what ever she is up to at the same time, and this is portable. It comes with me to the river, to the CFT Club Night, to the cabin... And of course, when I am done, everything goes back inside. My wife calls me over organised. I like it. Locks too, so no bother with the children...

I'll get a pic up but my tying area is always in total order. Not a single bit of fluff laying around. Every time I use an item it's put back in its place. Even my tools are placed back in their exact position. Even an ink pen. Always been that way. Not just my fly tying but everything in my life in general I do the same, drives my wife nuts.

Yep.  Any picture of my tying area will look the same as any other.  Different fly in the vise would be all.  Like others that have commented, I have obsessive/compulsive disorder to a pretty fair degree.  And now, to make matters worse, I am getting more forgetful, so it is even more important that there is a place for everything and everything in its place.

I will happily post a picture, but it is going to look pretty much like the last one I posted.

So, phone images of Stella's Gallery taken when I got to work this morning.  No prep at all.  I finished a "Dandy" last night, so no fly in the vise.

But, I'll attach a picture of the Dandy to make up for it.

Better or worse, my current tying/computer area. The fly of the moment and some of my silks & flosses. There is another room next to this with my materials, books, gear & old tying area.

Here's some pic's of most of it, in its "ready to go" condition, one of the 2 red boxes has around 140 or so genetic capes & saddles, the other one is about a 1/3 of my seal & other loose dubbing's & the rest is a few other bits aquired along the way. Look's like I'll have to link it to my flickr site as can't seem to upload it ?  Anyway, it's (currently) the 1st 7 pics. but no problem if you want to waste some time on the rest....    https://www.flickr.com/photos/[email protected]/26922471149/in/dateposted-public/
