Wondering if any modern hook comes close the the Allcock.  I am starting a new project soon and the originals were all tied on the model perfect offset. I was thinking the mustad 94840 original would be close except for the offset but I dont mind about that.

 Any help would be appreciated

 Thanks, Stephen

Sorry Josh, all I have is Allcock-Seally Model Perfect offset. No Model number mentioned. From the pics I saw it looks close to the old mustad 94840. I would be looking for a size 6 or so. Going to frame not fish

I'll look through my hooks. I may have some Allcocks for you. Do you have a photo of the hook/fly?

Sounds like a good project Stephen. Hope you figure this out.

Chuck Vestal knows. Not sure if he'll jump in or not.

there are allcocks ...all model perfect dry wire....   the 04991 series was favored by the Catskill tyers before the stock dimimished, then they moved onto 94840

Thanks, will see if I can get a pic. In the first book from Joe Bates there are 20 or so patterns of Ira Gruber from Blackville. Not many pics. In his last book that his daughter and Bob Warren finished there are lots of pic of the Gruber flies but I have a hard time to tell. They are all wet flies. The hook in question looks like it might be regular shank with medium wire. Alas, the one person who would know, Bob Warren, passed away last fall. I think the ones that Josh have are pretty close.

Thanks Josh, they actually look identical from what I can make out. I dont know why Ira would have chosen a round bend hook for his wet flies but I guess he had his reasons

  Sent you a pm
