About Me

I am new to tying and fishing. I began in January 2010. I started my interest with tying. Watching television on day I witnessed a man tying an Elk Hair Caddis and thought to myself "that looks relaxing". The next day went to my local Bass Pro and bought a cheap $20.00 tying tool kit. I also bought some material to make the beginner of all beginner flies, The Wooly Bugger. After about ten of the WB I was ready to move on. I only had three materials what was i to do? I instantly began crafting my own artistic expressions. With the chennile and the tips of my hackles I made a Black Hornet. All my own techniques. I hadn't learned any out side of the wooly bugger yet. After obtaing some new knowledge I was interested in Dries. I began trying all sorts of dries, the adams and hendrickson family, the royal family, and some all my own(I haven't seen them yet). After awhile I took a bunch my flies both popular and my own creations to two local fly shops to show off and get some tips. They all told me that there is no way I have been tying for only two months. I asked for some tips on tying. I was told that every tying here is after browns and brookies, and that my skills where beyond them. "Two months and I am equall to your best tyer" I remember thinking. So I bought a cheap Fly rod combo and began fishing. Looks are deceiving. My heads fell apart. Who cares if its the most beautifully crafted fly if its destroyed at first cast. I wasn't tying my finishing knot tight enough. After about six months my tying became existent. I needed a challenge. In January 2011 I found steelhead flies, then classic salmon flies. I am hoping to one day be of the quality to have my spey/steelhead/salmon flies framed and admired. For now its a dream the materials are expensive and the attention to proportionate detail is astounding.
