About Me

History major, and Anthropology minor at University of Northern Colorado. I graduate this spring (May 2011). I have been fly fishing for 3 years now, and tying flies about that long as well. I was a late bloomer onto the fly fishing/tying scene, considering I started when I was 23. I hadn't fished since I was about 10 years old. Went fishing with a buddy one night and I had a blast. I decided that if I was going to start fishing I should do it right and Fly fish. I bought a cheap fly rod kit and taught myself how to cast (Dale is still trying to fix the self taught problems I developed haha). I received a fly tying vise from a friend, and had to teach myself how to tie flies. I tied a lot of horrible looking things that somehow caught Bass and Bluegills. I started looking online and reading books, but didn't really worry about tying quality flies, just fishing flies. I eventually found this forum, and was blown away by the flies I saw. Originally I looked into tying classic wets, tried it for a bit, gave it up for a while. When I came back to it I was determined to learn to tie salmon flies. April 2010 marks the downward spiral for me. Since then I have developed great friendships and learned so many things. I look at the progress I have made in the last year, and shake my head and wonder how it was possible considering the early abominations. However...I still have a long way to go yet.
