anyone here have any emu feathers? 4 to 6 inches? im searching for some to make a few quetzal subs to tie the ghost flies, I have a couple of the real deal but to smallish for these flies, I need something for 6/0 hooks. few years back I made some quetzal subs using emu, dyed green then while dyed or feathers were still wet I dusted them with pearlesent powder. they looked so real I actually used them on flies and no one noticed they were not real quetzal. the pearlecent powder made them look very real

if anyone has any emu or knows of a source please pm me

with all the talk of using subs I guess im going green, no pun intended

edit checked ebay but none with the right shape to match quetzel

Bud, they do come onto ebay.co.uk occasionally, the ones I have are not the right colour green though - they're to blue-ish.

Bud,

These sites offer emu. Can't speak for length of those particular feathers, but my dealings with them in the past for other materials has always been first rate.

I've trimmed feathers to shape and been very happy with the results.  If all else fails you might try that.
